Day 22: Novena

Novenas, novenas!

Novenas are special prayers, typically nine days in length with a certain prayer said each day, that you offer for an intention.

Most novenas ask God for graces through a particular saint's intercession. E.g. the St. Therese Novena.

Our Lady has countless novenas you can pray. St. Joseph is not far behind with many. But lots of saints have novenas that people pray with.

Choose a novena and start praying it today.

A nine-day novena to St. Joseph for purity is a good way to start.

If you want to get more intense, a 30-day novena to St. Joseph is also a good one. And for the really motivated, go for a 54-day Rosary novena!

But you can do several nine-day ones, one after the other as well. Search for your favorite saint's name plus "novena" and see what you find.

I prayed novenas to God through several saints' intercession for purity, for my future wife, for my vocation, and God brought me to His will on all of them.

Conquering lust once and for all can feel like a lost cause, so I recommend the St. Jude Novena for overcoming vice and growing in purity. He is the patron of lost causes, and they are no match for him!

"Devotion to the Blessed Sacrament and devotion to the Blessed Mother are not simply the best way, but in fact the only way to keep purity. At the age of 20, nothing but communion can keep one's heart pure. Chastity is not possible without the Eucharist."
- St. Philip Neri
